What is clearing? Every investment/brokerage firm must clear and settle their trades. Clearing is the process of matching the buy-side and the sell-side of a securities transaction and exchanging the money and securities for that transaction. Firms who lack the ability to clear their own trades will contract with a “carrying brokerage firm” to do so for them. Penson specializes in doing just that.
